Anyone who reads this knows I enjoy being naked as much as I can, and am relatively immodest - meaning I don't have a whole lot of inhibitions - when it comes to simple nudity. My doctors raised me that way. Unfortunately a lot of people immediately connect nudity with sex, and even worse, sex with debauchery. In my mind, these people are the perverts - as in perversion - not the people who freely accept their sensuality and sexuality. I find the more open and free people are the more attractive I find them. I think they're more honest. I don't mind modesty and appropriate dress with people who might be uncomfortable, but it's the judgmental people who find fault in more freespirited folks who are the problem. Nude does not equal sex in the eyes and perceptions of well-adjusted adults. Pure joy Some years ago I wrote a short story about a childhood friendship - fictional, not mine - in which a pubescent young boy and a pubescent young woman both skinny dipped and lay out in meadow talking about their friendship with each other. The boy, I think, was moving away and it was rocking their young worlds. They weren't in love. They were best friends and had been that way since they were small kids. And the skinny dipping had become one of the innocent pleasures of their friendship, despite the fact that adults might perceive it as problematic. In other words, sexual. Adults see worlds through a very puritan point of view in modern America. The concept that two young people couple possibly be good friends, naked and close, without it becoming sexual is beyond them. It speaks more towards their own mindset than it does the kids'. I met a friend for cocktails last night and she and I got around to the topic of sexiness and appreciating someone's appearance. What we commonly refer to as "checking out" that person. I'm sitting here in the dark in my home office wearing nothing more than a t-shirt, and naked from the waist down. I commented on it just recently here on the blog that it's my preferred mode of attire. It's a comfortable and open way for me to be. If society let me, there's a chance I'd never wear pants again. Unfortunately, it's not how I can always dress at home. I would love it, but it makes my wife uncomfortable.
